Speaker:

Have you ever stopped to think about all the things that you

Speaker:

inherited from your mom? The good, the maybe not

Speaker:

so good, the hilarious. Well, this

Speaker:

Mother's Day, I did just that, and I realized

Speaker:

just how much of myself comes directly

Speaker:

from my mom. Today, in this special Mother's

Speaker:

Day edition, let's look at the traits we inherit from

Speaker:

our mothers and the indelible mark they leave

Speaker:

on our lives. So let's talk about

Speaker:

wit. Most who know my mom will tell

Speaker:

you of her wit. It it kind of

Speaker:

sneaks up on you. Like, it's after she has

Speaker:

said something, then you think,

Speaker:

did did she just say that? Well, at 82

Speaker:

years young, my mom can outwit anyone in the

Speaker:

room, but she's earned the right to say

Speaker:

exactly what's on her mind. And let me tell you,

Speaker:

she does. She makes us laugh too.

Speaker:

That razor sharp humor, it's something I I

Speaker:

I cherish, and I see so much of her in

Speaker:

the way humor plays a role in my life. Well, at

Speaker:

least, I think I'm funny. Then,

Speaker:

there's her fashion sense. My mom has always

Speaker:

turned heads with her style from

Speaker:

embellished suits to those iconic

Speaker:

big church hats that she wears as a church

Speaker:

musician and a pastor's wife. She's a fashion

Speaker:

icon in her own right. And though I may

Speaker:

not rock the big hats, her sense of style has

Speaker:

rubbed off on me. So just the other day, I

Speaker:

ordered the same sweatsuit that she got

Speaker:

from Amazon. Now how many of you can say

Speaker:

that you're trying to dress like your 82 year old mom?

Speaker:

Speaking of inspiration, can we talk about work ethic?

Speaker:

This is a trade that has fundamentally shaped

Speaker:

me. Growing up, my mom was the rock of our

Speaker:

family, especially when my dad was ill and couldn't

Speaker:

work. She juggled 2 2 jobs,

Speaker:

led a a traveling church choir,

Speaker:

and somehow managed to keep us thriving.

Speaker:

Her relentless drive is

Speaker:

something that I've undoubtedly inherited, and

Speaker:

when she tells me I'm doing too much, I have to remind her,

Speaker:

I got it from her. And speaking of her

Speaker:

roles, let's not forget her music. So

Speaker:

my mom plays the piano and she does so by

Speaker:

ear. So she can sit and hear something

Speaker:

and then she can play it. I always

Speaker:

wanted that, but I had to learn music,

Speaker:

which was actually kinda boring. So let's just

Speaker:

say I didn't inherit that gift,

Speaker:

so my piano days were very short lived.

Speaker:

But my love for music and

Speaker:

my ear for harmony, that was her

Speaker:

influence. And I can definitely tell

Speaker:

when somebody is singing off key,

Speaker:

which then brings me back to that off brand humor I talked

Speaker:

about. It's sometimes unexpected,

Speaker:

often hilarious, and most times

Speaker:

just makes you just shake your head.

Speaker:

But it's not just about the traits that we share.

Speaker:

There are qualities that she possesses that I didn't quite

Speaker:

inherit, like her incredible patience.

Speaker:

But you know what? I don't recall her being this

Speaker:

patient when I was growing up, And then there's

Speaker:

her nurturing spirit that seems to extend to

Speaker:

everyone in the family. So although

Speaker:

she only had one child, she has raised

Speaker:

many. But watching her, I've

Speaker:

learned so much about kindness and care,

Speaker:

even though maybe those traits don't

Speaker:

come naturally for me. So

Speaker:

whether it's style, humor, or a drive to

Speaker:

get things done, I am definitely my mother's

Speaker:

daughter, and I wouldn't be who I

Speaker:

am without her. I

Speaker:

invite all of you to think

Speaker:

about the traits that you've inherited from your

Speaker:

mother or your mother figures. What have they taught

Speaker:

you and how have they shaped you?

Speaker:

So to all the moms out there, happy mother's day,

Speaker:

and remember, maybe the next time your mom

Speaker:

does something totally weird or embarrassing,

Speaker:

just appreciate that it might be where you get your best

Speaker:

qualities. So here's to the women who

Speaker:

made us who we are until next time,

Speaker:

stay graceful, stay stylish, and keep

Speaker:

celebrating every day with love and

Speaker:

laughter.
